Yep. This thing is nuclear.
Well the week was kind of a blur, did a lot of service, some tracting, and other such things. But it was still good.
Transfers came and went. We actually had to go to the mission office to pick up my license, and so we were in the area and stopped by the transfer meeting to see what was going on. We'd forgotten to bring suit jackets so we couldn't stay for the meeting, which was kind of a bummer because transfer meetings are always exciting. Apparently we got 8 or 9 new missionaries, and next transfer only like 8 or 9 are coming in...And considering that like 35 have gone home recently (finishing mission, medical) we are having a shortage of missionaries. So things could get pretty cool, rumor has it that Elders might start covering singles wards. That would be interesting.
We didn't get to go to that evangelical church this week, but next weekend we are planning on it. We're pretty excited to see what it's like, and our Bishop told us that we would be approached and basically be prepared to defend. So we'll see how that goes. But the family we are teaching is doing really well, the dad is halfway through Alma and really hasn't had any problems as of yet. But he's starting to want more evidence and physical stuff which leads us to believe he's getting the spiritual witness and now he wants the intellectual one. So we're working on doing as much of that as we can without getting away from our purpose as missionaries.
We also committed one of our investigators, who we were sure would accept a baptismal date this week but didn't, to live the Word of Wisdom and fast with us on Sunday that she would get her answer. So we're still working on it but that's another good thing coming up on the horizon. The work has been going pretty solid here, we have people to teach, less active's we're starting to work with, service to keep us busy, and the occasional couple hours of tracting to even it up. And it's been really sweet to see that even though it's tough for us to find, people just kind of get dropped in our lap, almost as if the Lord is saying "thanks for all the hard work. Here ya go". Another thing that happened this week was the lady that came to church last week out of the blue, actually made it to 3rd hour this week. She didn't come to Sacrament meeting so we were all disappointed, but then she tapped my shoulder as we were waiting in the hallway to go to priests quorum and was like "I just put my daughter in primary. Now where do I go?". She had a ton of challenges in the way of her coming to church but still made it! It's always interesting on my mission how some people will be all committed to come, and then one little challenge comes up and everything falls to pieces. "My dog puked on the floor". "It's cold today" etc. And it's always nice to see those who are elect and just willing to fight basically to make it to what they know is important. One thing I've learned on my mission is that a lot of times God will place challenges in front of us to see if we really are committed to doing what we want to do. And it's up to us as to how much we really want to do said thing. Always watch out for opposition. It's always going to be there.
Had a surprise at District Meeting this week. The AP's showed up and decided to see what it was like. I just kind of laughed as we pulled up and saw their van and went "oh boy, the AP's are here" but I'd prepared and had a good meeting planned so I didn't worry too much. They really enjoyed it, offered a few tips but overall said it was an awesome meeting. It must have been my Back to the Future reference:
Me: Ok, we're singing Hymn no. 13, "An Angel From on High". Now, the hymn switches up a bit in the middle, so "Watch for the changes and try to keep up".
