Meeting a Mormon Celebrity

Happy Easter everyone! Did anyone get to check out the churches mormon.org/easter thing that went on last weekend? It was pretty cool to see the testimonies of the Savior, and we also had an Easter Cantata Saturday and Sunday here that was really amazing. Directed and written by Sally DeFord and sure enough I got to meet her and shake her hand! She was way cool and she does a lot of the music for choirs and soloists and chances are you've heard a song she wrote in a Sacrament meeting at one time. So that was cool. She really was humble and cool and you'd never know she was who she was. Except the performance was exceptional. It was a good weekend.

Among other news, it snowed here this week so we shoveled a few people's driveways and as we were driving to an appointment, this guy in front of us was pulling away in his truck, and his trailer he was towing suddenly fell out of the hitch and started dragging on the ground. Well we jumped out and were going to help him but he had a jack, so we kept driving and our appointment canceled, so we were like "hey, let's go make sure he doesn't need help. So we came back and got there as 2 other guys arrived, and one of the guys was like "hey we got 4 of us, let's just lift the trailer and just slide it back in" So we did and it went super well. Then later on in the afternoon, we were driving down in Black Forest, and this truck pulled out in front of us and it's tire was doing something funny. Elder Frazier commented on that and just then the tire rolled away from the truck! The truck went down on it's back rim and pulled off on the side of the road. I guess he was pulling out of the tire shop and they forgot to put the lug nuts back on...Woops. It was the day of mechanical failures.

Also I got my license! Finally a Colorado Temporary License, we got the letter from the state saying I was verified as an alien for my entitlements, and so pretty soon I'll get the plastic card and then we will be rocking! On the way to Calhan from the DMV, as we were doing exchanges, we decided to stop at MacDonalds really quick to grab something to eat on the way. So we were in line and this guy suddenly came up to us and started talking about BYU and Orem, and the Kansas City, Missouri temple open house. We figured out what was going on, and apprently he'd picked up an old friends kids who got stranded out near Limon, CO on the way home from the open house. He has been less active since he was about 19 and talking to them, was thinking about coming back. Well then boom. 2 Missionaries show up at Macdonalds. It was a sign for him and he's looking to start making it back to church and helping his kids get baptized.

Speaking of signs, funny story some guy in Calhan has been praying and reading the Book of Mormon every day, and keeps having these great things happen to him. Well the other night the "South Park" mormon episode was on and he was just like "I think it's a sign". It was pretty cool, those who attempt to demean or criticize us usually end up helping us out.

Other than that, a good week. Last week of the transfer right here. Elder Palmer, my 4th companion and the one who I went to Sanford with is going home on Friday. Crazy stuff.

My prediction is that everyone in the District stays the same. So we'll see.

Love you!
Elder Gibb
