Does the "don't add to this book" in Revelations apply to the hymn book as well?
Hey! Week 5 of the transfer has come and gone. Next week is transfers. This week the departing missionaries go home, which would normally make me the "oldest" missionary in the mission except one of the Assistants decided to extend so he wrecked it. Haha but it's all cool anyways, things are going swell in La Junta and the surrounding area. Well, except the drought. And the fires up in Colorado Springs. They say this is the worst drought in the history of this area of Colorado, with temperatures well above the norm. I'm glad I got to be serving here when that happened :I A few sets of missionaries have been evacuated out of Colorado Springs, but I'm not sure exactly how that's working out or anything. My first area, the Mountain Shadows area has parts that have basically been burned to the ground so I'm sure a few people I knew back in that area have lost their homes. It's pretty sad but so far only 2 deaths have been reported so it seems like people are being pretty safe. It's good though, I wish I had been serving up there when that all happened because I always wanted to be a part of a natural disaster on my mission and help with the cleanup and stuff like that. Maybe that's weird. I don't know.
Well, one of the people we found off tracting this week had to be dropped. It was pretty cool because we taught her and she had a tentative date for July 21st and we had a Church tour set up and everything and then she said that her boyfriend just wanted to be catholic. I was talking to her on the phone and was like "but you don't want to be catholic, you told us!" and she was like "ya I know, but it's ok". *sigh* ok. I could tell Elder Wadsworth was pretty saddened by it and it's good because he has a strong love for the people and you can tell. It's hard on me too, but since i've seen a lot of it over the past 22 months I've learned to deal with it. But the day we taught her was awesome, we found someone off a street contact, that told us to come back and we did and taught him! Now we're probably going to play basketball with him and his non-member friends some time, and try to teach more people off of it. So it's pretty cool how we're able to find people in this area, where you are able to see the results of your faith in tracting and street contacting.
Ok! So this week we had our District meeting, and prior to the meeting Elder Wadsworth and I made copies of "Oh Canada" and slipped them in the backs of everyone's hymnbook and then started the meeting and was like "let's all turn to hymn number 342" and everyone was like "342...342...which one is 342 OH man no I don't want to sing this" but some people obliged. Turns out they didn't realize it was Canada Day, and they all thought I was just being a jerk trying to mock the 4th of July or something. Nope. I don't do that. It was pretty funny, on Canada Day itself I was playing the piano for Priesthood and they sang the Star Spangled Banner. So I played the american national anthem on Canada Day. Go figure. But it's good and it's a great ward here, the people are so nice and willing to help with anything we need, and a lot of fun too.
Also had a guy tell us that we weren't Christian. My first one in La Junta. Oh well, he's missing out.
I can't think of anything else too cool/funny from the week. We have miles now which is nice, so we no longer have to bike in 100 degree weather. It was funny because the ward was like "Elders, make sure you guys aren't biking in that" and we were like "well...we have been for the past few weeks" Went for a jog this morning, which was quite nice because it's moderately warm in the mornings, like perfect temperature.
Love you!
Elder Gibb
