A big hot hair dryer blowing at your face

Hey! So I know every time I talk about the weather and all that stuff, but yesterday it was 113 F...that's 45 C for all you Canadians out there. So hot. Especially when you are on a bike. And when it's windy, you'd think that it would cool everything off, but really it's just this hot dry wind that makes your eyes dry out. So we are being tested to our limits but that's ok because we are finding people to teach.

So we did some mileage calculations last night, and found that the reason we've been so low on miles this month is because we've had 5 district meetings + 1 specialized training which is 6 x 150 mile trips to Pueblo. Next month we only have 4 district meetings, so we might be able to use our car a lot more. Which would be nice, biking is good and is helping me lose the few pounds I've gained on my mission, but a car is a tender mercy. And a car has A/C.

This week we had our investigator come to church, a little late, but stayed for all 3 hours which is awesome! We got to teach her after church and she's understanding everything so well, and the baptismal date is being pushed back to the 14th due to some scheduling things but that's actually a blessing because we didn't want to cram all the lessons/interview into only a few weeks. This gives us some more wiggle room.

As well, Elder Wadsworth got his hair cut last Pday, and the lady started asking him questions like "What do you guys believe happens after you die?" and I was sitting off to the side and decided "hm. Let's see how he does". We had just role played the Plan of Salvation that morning in companionship study, and he did pretty good. I stepped in to clarify some points but we had a return appointment for yesterday from it. Well she wasn't home, but she had been called in to work. She said she really did want to learn what we believed and so that was way cool. P-Day Miracles!

We also had a dog chase this week (i love those). We went out to Ordway, to go visit a girl that the missionaries before were working with. Well, we get there and they were in the middle of a dog that had gotten off it's leash and was enjoying being chased around town. We tried to trap it so we could grab it but it was too smart for us. Well, I had my bike strapped to the back of the car for exchanges the next day (we were on our way to Pueblo) so I took it down and got on and took off after the dog. It was pretty cool because I was able to go into the alley's and move around a lot better than the big van they were using could. I also felt super cool pulling it off the car and jumping on, I had images in my mind of jumping on a motorbike and coming out the back of the Batmobile or something and I could hear the fight music going on in my head. Anywho, we caught the dog, and the people were very grateful for the bike, so it was a good chance to get to meet some of the people in the town. And we have a return appt with the girl for wednesday. And she had wanted to be baptized before.

And had a good experience on Saturday. We went to go visit a potential investigator that we had a return appt with. Elder Wadsworth had written down the address, and when we went back, we realized he had written down the wrong address. So we biked around for a while trying to find it, and I was a little frustrated because the guy seemed kind of interested and we were going to be doing light service as well, but we decided if we couldn't find it even after praying, the Lord didn't want us to. So we tracted a nearby street instead and found 6 potentials. Ya. A few were pretty flaky, but one was like "Well, I just think there is too many churches and I've given up trying to find the one true church." and we were all like "woa!! Hold on! Did you try ours?" and she was like "no..." and another guy was like "Oh I'm catholic" and I felt prompted to ask about why he was catholic and it ended up with him saying "ya. I want more out of religion than what I have" So that was pretty sweet. We're really trying to be persistent with people and find those who are truly prepared to accept the gospel.

Anywho, gotta go! Love ya!

Elder Gibb
