Well this has been an insane week. Mostly at the end though. Because yesterday, the Dove Valley ward split into the Dove Valley and Clarke Farms ward. So now we (hopefully. Fingers crossed) will be covering 3 WARDS! That means 3 times the Bishops, 3 times the Ward Mission Leaders, and 3 times the fun! It's so nice to finally know, because finding fellowship this week was brutal. This person would work...oh wait, they'll probably be in the different ward. That kind of thing. And everyone in the ward thought we knew what was going on, when really we knew probably less. Although my companion called the boundaries, and we both called the new bishop. But now we will get to church at 8:00 for meetings, then church starts at 8:30 for stonegate, then at 12:00 we have Dove Valley, then at 2:00 we have to go to Clarke Farms until 5. 9 hours of church, it's going to be so awesome! 3 Fast and Testimony meetings! We'll have to be careful or we might get translated. Haha naw, but seriously.
So transfers came and went, and thankfully I wasn't involved in them. I'm so happy I get to experience the fruits of our efforts, which are 3 with dates for the month of March. Hopefully we will be able to double that number. We are trying to get things moving with a lot of the potentials that we are working with, and we chatted with the Zone Leaders last night about it, and they are expecting us to get 6 this next month. Which is kind of scary, but the Zone Goal is 14 so they want us to account for a little less than half the zone goal. Which will be insane, but we can do it! Speaking of insanity, they also announced on Sunday that the Parker stake is splitting at stake conference on the 13th. It makes sense, I mean there is 15 wards currently in the Parker Stake, which seems a little high. But all this stuff is just crazy, I've never been involved in any of it before, at least that I can remember. I do remember the boundaries getting realigned when I was young and how tough that was, but it was crazy. All the young women were crying and some of the young men too. Actually pretty much everyone was crying. Except us. We were celebrating. Sorry, i'm digressing back into the ward split here, but it was just so crazy.
Something I forgot to include from last week, was I learned what Marijuana smelled finally. It's a good skill to have, so when you go to teach investigators, you know how early to include the word of wisdom while teaching. But some guy offered to let us smoke something with him, and we politely declined. But woa, that was some potent smelling stuff. So all you kids that think "I need to go to parties and school so I can learn about worldly things..." Trust me, you learn about worldly things on your mission. Especially if you go to California. It was funny, a member took us out to the mall, and I haven't been inside a mall for 6 months. But looking at it through the missionary lens, all that kept going through my mind was words like "costly apparel" or "began to be lifted up". Basically, the world hasn't really changed all that much in 6 months, but I felt like I was in a completely foreign place, and I felt really uncomfortable. Just a big "great and spacious building". Readjustment after my mission is going to be tough.
The members we live with were watching a BYU-San Diego basketball game, and they paused it to show us that all the people in the student section (this was a San-Diego home game) were wearing white shirts, ties, black pants, and bike helmets. It was funny to see, and makes me feel good to know that I am on the receiving end of some of the mockery. I feel famous! I'm in an institution!
We also heard that one of our teenage investigators that has had some family opposition to the church, is now dating a mormon boy from a different ward. That is actually pretty awesome, because he can get in the house and get the family more open to it.
We also met the sisters investigator that they gave to us. He is in a band, and so we connected super well. We talked to him for a bit, and they didn't come to church on Sunday, but it's just more people to work with. In addition, a member has had a friend coming the past couple of weeks, and we got to meet her and she wants to take the discussions. We are just waiting on the parental permission. So TONS of stuff is starting to happen. Didn't get to teach a lot of lessons this week, but this next week is going to be so good!
Hope my letter didn't bore or offend you.
I love you.
Elder Gibb
