Ah yes. As a missionary I am unable to celebrate this holiday. Me and my companion gave each other a hug though. And sang "Total Eclipse of the Heart". And "Never Gonna Give You Up". Yes, I know what you're thinking. Babylon. And you're right.
So this has actually been a pretty awesome week, If I do say so myself. Things have really started to cook, and that scares me because transfers are next week, and this is kind of what happened in Alamosa. I got there, it was slow for a bit, and then we were really blessed with success, it picked up, and we had people with dates, and then I get transferred out. Now, I got here, it was slow, we got blessed with a lot of success, and I really don't want to get transferred. Because I have a feeling that if I get transferred I'll go back to outer darkness, or I mean the San Luis Valley of the Shadow of Death. But I digress.
Ok so we had our Nerf Gun war on Monday which was really fun, and then we went to FHE with a member family, and their less active neighbor whose husband is not a member. The husband wasn't there, but we got to meet the wife and that was sweet.
Another cool thing that happened this week was that we went to a less active guys house, and talked to him for a bit, and then decided to tract the street. Well we got to the last house which was right before the road curved, and the lady invited us in. We couldn't because we didn't have another man with us, but we offered to shovel her driveway. So as we were shovelling (It snowed SO MUCH this week. We were on foot for the first bit because our bikes could not get through the snow), we were talking to her and found out she is a member who comes to church frequently, but works on sunday. We asked her for her name, and she turned out to be one of the part member families on our ward mission plan "15 families" list! So we inadvertently did service for a part member! And her husband showed up from his night shift as we were finishing up, and looked pretty happy about it. So now we are getting the ward to invite them to take the lessons.
Tracting also helped us find another gold mine. We tracted into a less active lady who hasn't been to church for a couple of years. It was funny because her daughter saw us at the door and was all like "these guys are here" and then she see's us and is like "oh it's the Elders!". So her daughter is 10 and unbaptized and the mom wants to get back to church and get her daughter into church as well! And she has a roommate that we can work on. So that was a pretty awesome miracle off tracting.
Something else off tracting was, unfortunately, another bash. Now, this one was funny, because it was this young guy who came out and sat down in his chair, put on sunglasses, and lit up a ciggarette. He was really skinny and when he did that, I could tell he was trying to pull off some "mob boss" look, and I almost busted up. But the funny thing about this bash, was he kept saying that in the Book of Mormon, it says "In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was a god". Which is a slight varation on John 1:1. We were really confused, and we couldn't figure out what he was trying to go off of, and it didn't help that he thought that that scripture was in Genesis, when really it's in John. We had to go though, and as we were walking away, it hit us that he thought we were Jehovah's Witnesses! Because we are pretty sure that that scripture is in the New World Translation. And it made sense why he kept asking what version of the bible we used, and when we would say King James, he would get all confused and try and prove that King James was the only good version. Which we agreed with. Which confused him more. Oh well. I don't like bashing anyways. That one was funny mainly because he kept arguing points that we agreed with.
Ok i'll get the other funny thing out of the way.
We went to McDonalds, and the music was like this 50's music stuff so I thought "ok cool, I won't have to worry about getting trunky or anything" because that can happen when you eat at restaurants with popular music. Well i'm sitting there eating, not paying attention to the music, and all of a sudden, that "Earth Angel" song from Back To The Future comes on and I'm all like "oh no". And so for the next 5 minutes, me and Elder Summers quoted BTTF. "You know that new sound you're looking for? Well listen to THIS!" Ah classic. Babylon.
We taught one of our eternal investigators. The lesson went super well, and we committed him to pray about baptism. However, we should have committed him to a specific date and pray about that. We got a little chewed out by our district leader on that one. But we'll make it better by giving him a date this week. He's a really cool guy, going through a rough divorce, and it was cool because his fellowship is super good friends with him, so he asked him all the tough "bold" questions for us, which made it less awkward. He's been taught all the lessons in the past, but it sounds like previous missionaries haven't been all that committal with him. He was surprised when we told him we'd follow up about his prayer the next day at church. We did and he said he "wasn't sure" about his answer. But the Temple President was in our ward on Sunday, gave a fantastic talk (talks like an Apostle) was in our Gospel Principles class and took the last 10 minutes of class which was great, and then called out our investigator in the middle of Priesthood. So that was really awesome!
Well, I think that's it. Transfers next week. I hit my 6 MONTH MARK in 4 days. My Trainer, Elder Kilgore, goes home in 4 days :(
We'll see what happens. Keep it real. Live the scriptures. Don't do drugs.
