Hey family and friends, this has been a good week. Emailing right now, and then we're going to go to the Focus On The Family visitors center with our new friend that works there. Yep we taught that Evangelical we had lunch with again! Had a 7:00 in the morning breakfast appointment. It's sweet, we were able to explain a lot of things to him and help clarify where we are coming from. At one point, he seemed really excited and was just like "Ok! I get it now!" and basically it all clicked for him that everything in our church rests on the Book of Mormon, and that we are only trying to add more to what he already treasures, not take anything away. He isn't currently interested, he's comfortable where he's at, but it was sweet. It's a victory because next time he's around somebody who attacks the Church, he will stand up for it. And he's trying to find us service opportunities with New Life and he's taking us around the Focus on the Family visitors center! Ya FOTF hates us, but I don't think our friend knows that. Could be interesting.
The tough part about this week was the sickness that came upon us near the middle of the week. First me, then Elder Robledo. Really killed us and put us out of it. I was just having bad stomach abdominal pains from something I ate, and he was just super drowsy and had a bad head cold. We made the best of it we could but it was frustrating. This week will make up for it, we already know it! So here's one of those interesting stories that's kind of cool. That guy Richard, the one we did service for and his house was really smelly, the Falcon elders were supposed to invite him to be baptized and they didn't find a chance to this week. So our District Meeting got moved to Saturday night because the Calhan elders got 2 feet of snow and got snowed in (they drive a Pontiac Vibe...not going to happen) and We didn't feel like driving out there during a blizzard, and then they closed the road anyways on Friday. So Saturday night! (we got 10 in. of snow in our area) we have our District Meeting and it ended around 8:50 but everyone wanted to go to wendy's to get frosty's quickly so we decided to go. Well we get there, and who else is there but none other than Richard! So one of the Falcon Elders was ordering, and I was chatting with Richard and talking about baptism, and right there in the line at Wendy's gave him a baptismal date for the 26th of February! Never done that before. So he's basically just like "if I'm situated by then, yep we'll do it!" And then he wants to sell all of his stuff and move to Utah with the "normal people" as he calls us. So that was sweet, Elder Robledo and I celebrated the entire way home.
And It's time to play, "Elder Gibb's Foolish Decision of the Week!" Duh-duh-ah-du-doo-de-do
So we go to visit this potential, and this guy answers the door, and for whatever reason, instead of what I've always said my entire mission "Hello sir, is ____ there" somehow it comes out "Hey man, is ____ there". And this guy was like "the english major" after explaining that person had moved, it was "I'm twice your age, and you're calling me man? I don't mean to be didactic with you, but if I were a little more precocious..." and used all these big polysyllabic words. I felt so dumb. The one door I mess up. I tried to make up for it, apologizing profusely and using the word "sir" like 4 times in the ensuing conversation. He didn't mind, but I felt dumb.
And Mitt Romney came to town on Saturday! Wooo! Now, don't think I'm endorsing a candidate here, but here's the skinny. Elder Robledo had a baptism in his last area from a lady who self referred herself wondering more about Mitt Romney's church. She's still active and that was 4 months ago. Soooooo.....I'm in favor of anything that brings publicity to the Church, because publicity brings baptisms. I'm even in favor of the vile Book of Mormon Musical coming to Denver in a couple weeks. Can't wait. It's probably the second best thing behind a temple open house for getting referrals. I'm being serious too! except for maybe that last statement. But ya it'll be sweet. The Caucus is on Tuesday for Colorado and they are cancelling mutual because of it. It's so exciting I love being here for the politics!
Anywho. Can't wait for next week! Love you all!
