People with Famous People Names

Whoo daddy this transfer is going to be nuts. Like we have areas getting flushed left right and center, temple Jubilee is on Thursday but I don't go up until Thursday and we thought I might go up today and lose a week. But that's all good. Yep I'm staying in Sanford, going senior over Elder Hakes who came out in February, right when me trainer went home. But our district is getting really shaken up, the San Luis area is getting flushed, my companion is leaving, and we're getting a new DL, so it's just me and a transfer old missionary staying in the district. That will be interesting. But nothing else really to report on transfers. I think Elder Hakes is ok, we came down in a truck with him and he seemed kind of normal. Maybe a bit weird. That's ok I'm a bit weird.

So it is quite nice I beat the odds and got to stay. The more I think about it though, the more it makes sense. I have been fighting my companion the last couple weeks on obedience, and it's been so hard at times, and it didn't make sense that he would be "rewarded" by staying to experience the success we're having. It hasn't been a terrible experience, but there have been times where all I could do was shake my head...

So we have a baptism scheduled for Saturday at 6:00! Max is getting baptized and we went over a program and it's probably the sweetest program ever! Some kids baptisms the missionaries end up doing everything, but this time it's pretty much run by members. The only thing I'm doing is the confirmation and the missionary moment. And the Hymns are Praise to the Man and Stand for the Right! It is going to be a great experience. And i'm going to get all nervous about the confirmation again, like last time. Oh well. Prayers, Talks, Baptism, Witnesses, all ward members. Cool stuff!

And we had another neat experience in finding this week! We were on exchanges and Elder Palmer and Perkins tracted into a lady named Alice Cooper in the town of La Sauses. ya. Alice Cooper. Haha. But she is super interested and they set a baptismal date for the 21st of August on the spot. The only problem is she didn't come to church on Sunday, and La Sauses is 8 miles out of town so it's hard to get out there. Especially on bikes.

We managed to meet with our part-member family bishop invited to be baptized, and we set a date for baptism for September 3rd. So that will be a neat thing, just gotta teach and prepare and hold Satan away. He wasn't able to make it to church on Sunday because the cows needed water. That was a little sketchy, but he's alright, very old and quite sick. We also got Tony, the 83 year old catholic to church again. He's on to 2 Nephi in the book of Mormon and really starting to like it! He randomly went to a funeral at the church even though he didn't know the guy, and it's funny because all he could talk about was how spiritual it was, and then he went to his church and felt dead. It took him 30 minutes to leave the church because every person he introduced himself to, he told all about how our church is better than his.

So this week we visited this potential investigator in La Jara while on exchanges. He had lots of drugs and marijuana around, and we helped him paint one of his walls. It was nice. That's why I love serving in the valley, the drug dealers like the missionaries. Well, except in San Luis.

Not too much more happened. Sorry about the short letter with not many funny things happening. It was a good week. Hopefully with a companion who wants to work a bit more, we can really see some more success! Wish me luck with it all!

Elder Gibb
