Ok so I learned this week that I am officially taking "Medical Field" off the list of possible vocations after I get home. We'll just say that it's very apparent it isn't the job for me. But more on that later.
Well, we sure had a crazy week! We had a baptism, yes we did! That was 2 WEEKS IN A ROW! In SANFORD, the 2nd lowest baptizing area in the mission! Miracles can and do happen. The Lord has truly blessed us down here with some amazing success and I'm grateful that I get to be a part of it. It's nothing that I'm doing or anything like that, just a blessing for the hard work.
So the story: Elder Hakes gets transferred here 2 weeks ago. The second day he's here, a lady drives past and yells at him and tries to give him a hug. He taught a lady named Kacie when he was in Antonito 3 months ago, and grew to really be good friends with her. Then he got transferred up to springs and Kacie started to decline a little bit. They went on vacation, came back, and then tried to move to Arizona, but then had to come back for a few weeks. Basically a whole lot of stuff happened and they ended up having to move to Sanford, the same day Elder Hakes got transferred here. And she was having a terrible day and looked up and saw me and Elder Hakes walking down the road and that was it. That was her sign that she needed to be baptized, and right away before they move to Arizona. AND President Anderson didn't really know anyone in the mission at all. Didn't know where anyone served or anything. Can you say that the church is true? Can you say it 5 times fast? Coincidences like this just don't happen. It can't happen. There is a God ladies and gentlemen.. What are the chances that Elder Hakes gets transferred at the same time to the same place they've moved? Out of 180 missionaries?
So that was pretty awesome. We set a date on Tuesday for the Saturday night and had to get a lot done before the baptism. It was all worth it though. Great service and experience. Now we have someone with a date for September 3rd, so we need to find someone for this weekend so we can baptize 4 weeks in a row haha! Not sure who it's going to be yet, but if it's the Lord's will it will become apparent. But another rush baptism. Ah well.
I forgot to tell a story from a couple weeks ago. We were eating at a members house and they had some Jalapenos that they had made. Stuffed with Cream cheese and wrapped in bacon. Looked really good. Now having been in the american southwest for a little while, I confidently assumed I had grown accustomed to such spicy fare, and took a few bites. Boy did that land me in a world of hurt. My taste buds could not repel spicyness of that magnitude. It faded eventually but I learned my lesson, that Canadians just aren't built to handle foods such as the ones I tasted.
We have also begun a new finding activity that has turned out quite well for us. Now in La Jara and San Luis they play basketball 1 evening a week to fellowship people and bring non-members in. WELL what we've started to do, (and Grandma is going to be proud of me) is quilting with the Relief Society every Tuesday! I enjoy it much more than I would have enjoyed basketball because there's no sweating, or profanity, or expensive injuries (occasionally you poke your finger), you don't have to be 6ft tall to be good at it, and I just feel so refined, and we've gotten a very very very very less active to start coming back to church and take institute classes because of it. And we get to talk a lot about missionary work. And I get to learn how to quilt. I've gotten to be alright at it, but I don't understand how they can get their stitches so close together. I'm sure it will come with practice.
And I had someone telling me about their knee surgery and It was hot and I was sweating and I just about fainted. Like I had to sit down and put my head between my knees. It was pretty embarrassing, but I made the resolve right then and there that I can not, in any way shape or form handle the medical field. So that's out and I feel much better because of it.
Not that I'm making life decisions right now. I understand 12 months is still along time and I'll worry about all that stuff once I get closer to coming home.
I invited a part member to take the lessons this week and they declined. But then we got a return appointment with another one, so that was a cool miracle, since they've never set an appointment with us.
Oh yeah, that catholic guy, Tony, is up to 2 Nephi 9 and he drove up to us this morning as we were going to e-mail and told us how much it was his favorite chapter he'd read. So that was also sweet!
Yerp, that's it. I'll give a rundown on Zone Conference on the next email I fire back at cha
Keep doing the things you do! Have fun at school hahahahahahaha
