Wowza the transfer is already halfway done! Where has the time gone! Ahh!
So we had a pretty cool week in terms of funny experiences that were funny. Unfortunately we only taught 3 lessons this week, so it wasn't the most spiritual time ever, however, if cool spiritual things aren't happening, Heavenly Father rewards you with funny experiences to sweeten the e-mail home.
Alright so to start, last p-day we had a nerf gun war in the church cultural hall. It was pretty fun, and the Zone Leaders showed up to play as well, with slightly modified blow-dart guns so that was pretty cool. We only get 2 district p-days every transfer, and only for 2 hours, so we make them count!
Also, got in my first serious bike accident this week. Well, not serious, potentially serious. Like "if angels weren't around, i could have been badly hurt" serious. Here's the story: Me and Elder Summers were taking a shortcut through a dried up ravine, one that we'd taken many times before. It's down a hill, then you cross over about 2 feet of sand, which slows you down, and then up another hill. Simple enough. Well for some reason this time, I don't know if we were going too fast, but Elder Summers was in front of me and he hit the sand and his front tire got stuck and he got flipped over. Like his bike did a front flip. Now I was about a second and a half behind him, and was looking down. As I looked up, I caught a glimpse of him upside down with his bike in the air. So I slammed on my brakes (bad idea) and unfortunately, my back brake doesn't really work as well anymore, but my front brake works REALLY well. So you can imagine what happened. I'm going down a hill, going about 20 mph, I slam on my front brake, while leaning slightly forward. Well sure enough, the laws of physics are unchangeable* and I went right over the handlebars. It was kind of surreal and happened really fast. As I was coming down on to the ground, I noticed my head was going to hit his metal handlebar. Which it did. Really hard. But luckily I was being obedient and wearing a helmet. Well we stood up, had a laugh, dusted ourselves off, and kept on going. People laughed. But it was cool, no injuries at all!
We also found a used needle on the ground while tracting. Now, to be fair it said "insulin shot" on it, but I was suspicious. After all, this is the first time I've seen anything remotely related to hard drug paraphernelia, so I was pretty excited to find it. We threw it away. We were so excited at how random that was, and how cool it was etc. and then we found another one the next day on the other side of the city. So 2 used needles in 1 week. Not bad.
And we did have some spiritual things happen. For example, we were tracting and this guy came out of his house and started talking to us. You could tell he'd had a rough life, and he had a lot of questions. So we got to share a bit of the Plan of Salvation and the Restoration with him. He gave us HIS number and told us to get a hold of him. So that's pretty neat. Everyone told me I wouldn't find anyone off tracting in Parker, but we've averaged about 1 person a week, so I think we've been really blessed. This guy was really cool though, he had some concerns about religion just being an ancient form of chaos control etc. which are very compelling arguments to someone who is going off blind faith, but fortunately we have the Book of Mormon, to confirm our faith. And he seemed really interested in that.
We also had a chance to go to our investigator family's house. If i haven't given you the lowdown, here it is: They are totally interested and would be baptized, but his wife is in Ohio taking care of her mother, and he doesn't want to be baptized until his whole family is here, so they can do it together. Which is cool and all but kind of frustrating, because "In this mission, We baptize" is our missions slogan, and the Zone and District Leaders are hounding us to give them baptismal dates. So it's good pressure, but it can also be frustrating. Just like the fact that the sister missionaries can keep who they find. And most of the people we find are referalls for the sisters. So it makes us look bad because we aren't teaching a lot. Oh well. We are working hard and that's what matters.
Also, something funny and cool that happened this week: We were tracting and this guy came out and talked to us. He said he was a "bible blogger" so immediately alarm bells started going off in my head. And he questions he were asking made him seem like he was trying to bash, but it turned out he was really interested. He said he was currently reading the Qu'ran, and was hoping we would come by so he could get a copy of the Book of Mormon. He was completely convinced that Jesus Christ had visited way more people than the Isrealites, and that those he visited had kept records. So he had no problem with the Book of Mormon. Which was a cool thing to see. But it was funny, as we were about to leave he said something like "hey, i was reading in Zechariah this week, and there was a prophecy about how there would be an earthquake in the middle east, and I'm wondering if that's going to take place within the next couple years. I'll give you guys a call if something happens". We chuckled and thought "hmm..wouldn't that be funny?"
Fast Forward to lunch a couple days later
Me and Elder Summers are sitting there, eating lunch. The members we live with had left the TV on in the other room so we could catch brief snippets of it. Something about Egypt and a complete shift in the balance of power. Which I totally called by the way. After I saw a newspaper that said something about a coup in Tunisia, I was all like "oh boy, this is going to spread". But I digress. The news reporter was going on and on about it and then was like, "and now we have unconfirmed reports that a Isreali higher up has said that there has been an earthquake in the middle east". We immediately stopped eating and looked at each other. We shared a glance. And started laughing nervously. It was pretty funny, the guy never called us, and I think the "earthquake" was metaphorical, but still. Funny.
And Oh how I wish missionaries could check the news. Ah there is so much going on! I used to check it several times a day back home. I'm going through withdrawl! Nah I'm just kidding.

*Haha...not really though. Check out the "Alpha Constant" and research changing physical constants. I could also go into Modified Newtonian Dynamics, but I wont.
