A mission: The place where you call 911 for the first time in your life

Haha, hopefully the title doesn't freak you out too much: I'm ok. If I wasn't ok, my mission president would have called you.

So this week, the one family we are working with and trying to get to come to church dropped a bombshell on us. They have been really sick, and the dad has kidney stones. So we went over there one night this week and gave the whole family blessings. I blessed the baby, and that was kind of interesting. A) Because it is completely according to my faith, and B) it kept wiggling around. So that was a first for me. They still weren't at church this week, and we are really struggling with them. We think they might be getting anti'd because we went by to visit them, and this lady that had been somewhat rude to us ("I don't want to talk to kids about God!!! Why Don't you go study history etc. etc.") was over at their house while we were there once. But ya, we really just want to teach them in the church and give them a tour and so we can make their concerns go away.

Also this week, we taught O, the guy that believed in aliens and stuff. It went super good, even with all the side tangents that we went on we still managed to keep it under an hour. What made me very happy inside was when he was all like "No religion that I can think of acknowledges the fact that there are other planets and people out there". I came so close to telling him to read the Pearl Of Great Price, but decided against it. But when we did the First Vision, he definitely felt the spirit because he got all uncomfortable and started rubbing his arms and other stuff. He didn't agree to baptism, mainly because he said he didn't want to agree to something and then change his mind. But he is really excited to read the BoM, and definitely has real intent. The only problem is that he is going out of town for the next 3 weeks.

Which brings me to another thing, Christmas is a great time of year, but also stinks at the same time because everyone is super busy with company, and everyone goes out of town, and so missionary work grinds to a halt. The week before last I think we taught 6 lessons or something like that and this week we taught 3. So yes, things are getting annoying. Still I am finding ways to have fun and make tracting interesting, much to the dismay of my companion. For example, i've been trying to get him to go christmas caroling with me but he adamantly refuses. And so yesterday we were knocking doors, and unexpectedly I broke into a rousing rendition of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing". My companion unfortunately did not join in, and spent the whole time looking at me like I was an idiot. The lady told me I had a beautiful voice, which was funny because I thought it was quite pitchy, I was a little flat on some of the higher notes, and my rhythm fluctuated a bit. But alas, I'll take it.

Alright so this week, I almost got hit by a train. Me and my companion were crossing some railroad tracks, and for some reason the train was silent, and just outside of my peripherals. So as we were about to bike across the tracks, I hear this "BLARRRRRRRRRR" Insanely loud train horn and look to my left and bam! sure enough a train about 50 m away. It figuratively scared the poop out of me. I'm sure the person in the van beside me got a good laugh out of it, because my face must have been priceless. But I survived.

Also, next week we are definitely having a baptism. She's 9 and her parents are active, and so it wasn't too difficult. Which is nice.

Aaand the 9-11 call. I know you've all been waiting for it. So I'm calling this potential investigator to see if she is still good for the appointment we had set up, and the phone call goes a little something like this:
Me: Hey, this is the missionaries, how are you doing?
P: mmm..not too good. There is someone in here who is beating me, and hitting me, and if you could call the cops then that would be great.
Me: Uhh...Ok then!

So that's what I did. For the first time in my life, I called 911. To be honest, I have no idea what was going on over there, and still don't. We haven't seen them in over a week. So that's my story. I'm sure you were all expecting something to do with me fighting off a couple of ninjas and wolves with numchucks, but instead you got a domestic dispute.

Also this week there was a freeeezing cold north wind. Thanks a lot Canada.

Christmas party was this week. It was cool because we got a lot of part members to come, and so it was definitely a success. We are hopefully going to start teaching all of them in the next couple of weeks.

And this week was also exchanges. I went with Elder Lasson who has an incredibly deep voice, and tap dances. I know some missionaries don't like exchanges, but I love them. I think they can be a lot of fun, and you can learn so much from them.

And that is that. Watch out for ninjas and wolves.

Elder Gibb
