Satan, please leave Alamosa kthxbai

Ahh....Kind of a rough week although we did have some cool experiences. But seriously, everyone in Alamosa is sick right now, and about 4 of our teaching appointments last week fell through. One of our investigators got sick and was unable to come to church, so his baptismal date is getting pushed back. It's tough....BUT when things get rough, they also start getting awesome. And I had a hilarious experience this week oh boy.

So yes, Satan needs to leave Alamosa so that we can start teaching people again, and getting people out to church. With my perfect immune system, I have not gotten sick, but apparently a lot of people around here have been getting really sick from the Flu Shots. So I'm glad I didn't get one. When we only teach 5 lessons a week, and 4 fall through, it can be really depressing at some times. But still, the caravan moves onward!

Alright, so at the beginning of this week was Leadership Training, right on the heels of the Elder Nelson visit. Unfortunately I'm not leadership material, so I was not invited. Actually I've already been, and because I'm not a district leader I didn't need to be there (or, as the first counselor of the ward i'm in put it: You must be this tall to attend leadership...hahahaha). So I was on exchanges with an Elder Neff in a city called Pueblo, which was cool and tough at the same time. He was a cool guy, but his companion took all the appointments so we basically tracted all day, visited a few less actives, and pumped up his bike tire. He had road tires, and the goatheads in Pueblo are everywhere so he got 6 flats in one day. His companion took the car and he doesn't bike that often. Still, I learned a lot as I do with every exchange I go on.

So we've had some pretty cool miracles this week. We were teaching a first to Jason, and it went really well. When we explained the Apostasy, he nodded a lot and seemed like it really made sense to him. We couldn't give him a baptismal date, but I still managed to slip in a math joke (When the apostasy took place, it was like the church suddenly got divided by zero) and an Indiana Jones reference (the "leap of faith").

Another cool thing that happened, was we were tracting, and this guy opened the door and was like "hey do you have a mormon book?, it really helped me out in a tough time in my life a while ago and I really meant to flag you down and ask you for one" EPIC. Stuff like that just make you love your mission so much more. I mean, I love the tough times, but I love the awesome times too. So we'll be visiting him later this week. And then, another cool thing was we were tracting and picked up a potential; someone who told us to come back later. Now generally, potentials are kind of tough to get a hold of and usually turn out to not be interested. BUT we kept tracting and we decided to turn back about 20 minutes later. Now usually I feel bad about turning back, but this time I felt pretty good about it. As we were walking back, we noticed a lady who was struggling to move mattresses into her house. Well we offered to help and managed to do it really easily. When we walked in the house, we noticed that potential that we had met 20 minutes before and her and her husband were all excited that we were there to help out. So we basically BRT'd (build relationships of trust) that potential and we will try to see them next week.

Ok, but i'm sure you are all waiting on the edge of your seat for the "funny" story of the letter. So last week, after I emailed, i left my toque/beanie at the library. That was Wednesday. So on Friday, I decided we could stop by after district meeting and pick it up from the Lost and Found. It was a nice toque. very nice. But we went back and it wasn't there, so I was all dissapointed. Then, we were tracting, and this lady answered the door, wearing old raggedy clothing, with a really dirty house, and a beat up car. She called Joseph Smith a false prophet, and so we talked to her for a bit, trying to help her with her concerns. Actually, side note: she said she was a prophet. Anywho. After about 10 minutes of talking to her, I noticed the that hat she was wearing looked veeerrry familiar. So familiar. Like, uncannily similar to the expensive, nice, and specialty toque I had left in the library. I mean, I don't want to judge or anything, and it looked like she needed it more than I did, but it would have been funny when she was saying she was a true follower of Jesus Christ to point out that she had my toque. But I didn't. She needed it more than I did.

Maybe you didn't think that it was that funny. My companion laughed for a good 10 minutes afterward (dude! she was wearing your toque!). I thought it was hilarious.

Don't get sick.

Elder Gibb
