One and Done

Traaaaannnnsssfffeeerrrssssss (say it like that secretary lady from Monsters Inc said it)

Alrighty, so yesterday my companion got a phone call from President Pfile, and he is training again in this area, So I am being transferred to another area. I'm going to be going to the San Luis Valley, in a place called Alamosa which is apparently the coldest place in the Lower 48. Basically I will be paying back for all the wonderful weather I've had so far :(
My new companion is going to be a guy named Elder Terry. I don't know who that is yet so you'll find out next week how all that goes.

So this week we did exchanges, and I went up to a place called "Woodland Park" to be with Elder McCord for a night and a day. That was pretty sweet and we did a lot of service the next day, scrubbing the siding of a house. The only unfortunate thing about that was that it started snowing very heavily, and I hadn't prepared very well. But alas, i'm still alive so it was just a nice learning experience.

Then a day later, I went on exchanges with Elder Burdette who has a very deep knowledge of the sciptures and doctrine. So we had some interesting discussions whilst tracting, and I learned/realized a lot of things that I'd never really thought of before. So that was a really cool experience.

Me and Elder Kilgore had tracted into a lady who started shouting a lot of anti at us when she answered the door. Actually it was interesting because she started off at a normal tone, and slowly built up to yelling at us. After she finished, Elder Kilgore asked if we could maybe discuss with her some of her concerns, and so we made an appointment for the next day. But the next day, when I was with Elder Burdette, I got a strong impression as we walked up to NOT talk to her (In the words of Han Solo: I got a bad feeling about this). So we left. And it's good because we were biking that day (neither me nor elder B can drive), and we arrived home just as our dinner was there to pick us up, so had we stopped, we would have been very late as I misjudged the time that it took to get home.

Actually this week was sweet with some investigators. I don't know if I mentioned Wes, but he is super solid. He just loves us and wants us to come over all the time. So me and Elder B stopped over there and read Ether 12 with him. Now Ether 12 is just a fantastic chapter in the BOM, and afterwards, he was already asking how to apply some of the scriptures in his life. It's the wonderful thing that happens with a lot of people; they know that the Church is true, but they don't know that they know. Actually it was really cool, he asked both me and Elder B to share our personal conversion stories with him. The spirit was really strong, and I could tell he was affected by it. He came to church on Sunday! But alas, the sad thing is that I'm being transferred, so I will not be here to see him get baptized.

We also taught a lady this week who is from South Africa. She had her name removed about 30 years ago due to some really rough things that happened to her back there. But we were able to resolve a lot of her concerns, and she has committed to be rebaptized no problem!

One weird thing that's recently been happening, is we will be discussing a principle of PMG, either me and my comp, or in a lesson, and suddenly Star Wars analogies will pop into my mind. It will probably be useful someday, but for example, we were talking about enduring to the end, and I thought about the Death Star Trench run, and how you always got to "stay on target" etc. and how even if you are like Porkins, and don't survive to the end, at least you didn't "Loosen Up"....Look it makes a lot more sense in my mind.

Another cool thing that happened this week, was I found out that a recent convert who used to be a naval submarine captain, was one of 2 navy officers who helped edit "The Hunt For Red October" novel. Apparently it's crazy realistic, and there were parts that they had to take out because they were "sensitive". I just thought that was the coolest thing.

And ya, so that's it then. One and done. Hard to believe it's been 6 weeks already, this thing is going by too quickly. But my next e-mail will be flying at you from Alamosa, where temperatures apparently regularly make -60 F.

Keep the Faith. Anti is dumb. The BOM is true. Endure to the End!

Lot's of love and bunnies,

Elder Gibb
